PH80 Hydra-Cell Pro Specifications Sheet
The Wanner™ Hydra-Cell® Pro Pump model PH80 is the sanitary version of the D66 Hydra-Cell Pro Pump. Due to its high flow rate and pressure capabilities the Hydra-Cell Pro PH80 is typically used for high pressure clean-in-place (CIP) spray systems and high velocity spray drying applications where a hygienic pump head design is preferable.
The PH80 has a pentaplex design, meaning it has five pump chambers operating sequentially. As with all positive displacement pumps there is a very slight pulsation, undetectable without pressure transducers. The only pump components in contact with the pumped liquid is the pump head, check valves and elastomers. These very few parts in conjunction with elimination of a dynamic seal contribute to the extreme reliability of the Hydra-Cell Pro design.
In-fact, elimination of a dynamic seal give the Hydra-Cell Pro pump special abilities that piston, plunger, gear and other positive displacement pump designs capable of similar flow rates and pressures. Hydra-Cell Pro Pumps:
operate dry without damage; this may simplify the required control system
are undamaged by inlet cavitation, even when due to a totally clogged or closed inlet condition; most positive displacement pumps having a dynamic seal between the pumping chamber and pumping mechanism will become damaged quickly when cavitate and it results in fugitive emmissions and liquid contamination
reliably pump slurries and liquids containing abrasive particles; the check valves are the primare wear component, refer to our article Check Valve Wear Insights for additional information
will pump liquids at extreme temperatures
Hydra-Cell Pro PH80 pumps are ideal for CIP applications because they deliver a smooth flow rate at either low or high pressures through stationary, reactionary and motor driven CIP spray nozzles.
The impact force applied to a surface by a spray nozzle is calculated by the flow rate applied to the impact surface area. This requires maintaining a smooth, non-pulsating delivery of the cleaning liquid through the spray nozzle to ensure spray pattern integrity.
The pump and CIP spray nozzle performance must be repeatable for processes requiring validation; the performance of the spray nozzle is directly related to the pumps performance. PH80 Hydra-Cell Pro Pumps satisfy API 675 metering pump performance standards related to steady-state accuracy, repeatability and linearity.
The liquids used for CIP often consist of non-lubricating liquids (example: solvents) and the process typically entails a stage where the initial wash liquid is recycled through the pump during the main cleaning stage prior to the final rinse stage. The PH80 can easily pump particles up to 800 microns in diameter.
Hydra-Cell Pro PH80 pumps are also idea for spray drying applications because they also require a smooth flow rate through spray nozzles to generate specific droplet/particle sizes. Spray drying applications which utilize stationary spray nozzles and high pressure liquid to form the required spray pattern and droplet size distribution typically involve pumping slurries or liquids having a high percentage of particulate. In some cases, such as spray drying limestone slurry, ceramic slip, TiO2 and other pigments, these particles are abrasive. The abrasive nature of these particles damage pumps which have dynamic seals between the pump chamber and pumping mechanism. Thus the PH80 is uniquely qualified to pump abrasive liquids for spray drying biopharmaceutical, cosmetic and food products while also having a sanitary design.
The sanitary design refers to:
USP Class VI compliance (materials in contact with pharmaceutical products are safe, non-toxic and do not leach harmful substances)
The pump materials in contact with the liquid pumped are certified to be free from contamination by agents that cause TSE (Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies) and BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy)
Documented material Traceability in support of GMP, validation, audits, and inspections
Surfaces in contact with the pumped liquid are polished to 0.8 Ra, which is compliant with ASME BPE, 3-A, FDA and cGMP expectations
