What is a Wanner Hydra-Cell Pro® pump?
A Wanner Hydra-Cell Pro® starts with a drive shaft (1) held by a large Timken tapered roller bearing at the rear of the shaft (2) and a smaller Timken at the front. Between another pair of large Timken bearings sits a fixed-angle cam — the wobble plate (3). As the shaft turns, that plate rocks forward and back. Rotary motion becomes linear. The whole drive runs in an oil bath.
Hydra-Cell pistons (4) follow the plate. On the rearward stroke they fill with oil. A ball check in the bottom of each piston keeps the cell full on the forward stroke. That trapped oil loads the back of the diaphragm (5) and flexes it with the plate. That flex is the pump stroke.
The diaphragm is hydraulically balanced across the full pressure range. The face of the diaphragm sees only about a 2 PSI difference, whether the process is at tens of PSI or thousands.
Each diaphragm has its own chamber with a self-aligning inlet and outlet check assembly (7). As a diaphragm retracts, liquid comes in through the common inlet (6) and one inlet check. On the forward stroke the chambers — equally spaced 120° on a triplex — fire in sequence. Flow is constant and nearly pulse-free.
