Industrial peristaltic pumps — hose pumps — are sealless positive-displacement pumps with strong suction lift. They were designed for pumping viscous and high-solids liquids often for applications associated with wastewater, chemical slurry and food. The wetted components are the hose and hose connectors and when properly sized the hoses should last more than 1,500 hours.

Most brands sell the same elastomer families and pinch the hose in a similar way. Below are the six most common brands of peristaltic pumps with a cross-reference chart of hose size via pump model.

Pump Design Comparisons

Flow and pressure bands overlap. The highest flow rate pumps sometimes use more than one pump head per motor.

Two ways to pinch the hose: a shoe or rollers. A shoe uses two or more rounded profiles that slide on the hose. The cavity around that pinch is filled with lubricant so the shoe does not damage the hose. A roller usually needs only a light grease on the hose OD because it rolls instead of slides. Rollers designs are typically used for pressures up to 100 PSIG. Shoe designs can be used for higher pressures, up to 232 PSIG.

Hua Yun is the exception because its design uses a lubricated roller, shoe-style lubrication with roller, so it can be used for pressures up to 232 PSIG. Their hoses also tend to have a heavier wall thickness, extending hose life.

The size chart below is how you match a hose from one brand to another. IDs line up because only a few plants make these hoses; most pump companies buy from the same vendors. OD usually differs by about 1 mm. Length is what changes. We stock Vector and Hua Yun and trim length to fit the other brands.

If you buy from another distributor, measure ID, OD and length yourself. In the U.S. a 1½″ fitting is often adapted onto 32 mm or 40 mm hose — it is not automatically a 38 mm ID. You can cut a long hose down. You cannot stretch a short one.
